Korgas Description

A district-free city in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in the People’s Republic of China. Korgas has an area of about 1,900 km ² and had a population of about 85,000 people in 2014. The city is located on the border with Kazakhstan and is developed by China as an international logistics and trading hub as part of the “One Belt, One Road” concept, where more than $3 billion were invested by 2016. In Korgas, 100,000 standard containers can be handled in a year; In the long term, the figure is expected to rise to 500 000.
